What Is Transition Norwich?
Transition Norwich is a new Transition Towns initiative for Norwich.
Transition Norwich aims to facilitate a community response to the twin problems of Peak Oil and Climate Change. We aim to
- Raise awareness of the urgency of these problems;
- Help people to feel empowered to design solutions to these problems and put them into action;
- Bring people together to design and implement responses at the community level that go beyond what individuals can achieve.
Peak oil and climate change present an opportunity for a better life, as well as a threat to our existing ways of doing things. The likelihood is that the solutions and responses we will design together will involve consuming less and travelling less. Communities can get stronger as people get to know their neighbours better and buy more from local shops. The pace of life may slow down, and Norwich may get quieter and cleaner as cars become less common. The treadmill of working harder to consume more might be replaced by something more meaningful.
Transition Norwich wants to engage everyone in Norwich in adding the details to this vision of a better world. We want to engage existing green groups, churches and other faith groups, businesses and politicians. Above all we want to engage the citizens of Norwich.
